Alli Dowe - Final Project Description

For our final assignments, I would really like to photograph neon light signs. Neon signs provide simple, yet telling information on said topic. Neon signs often tell a story; providing information on what a specific location has in store. They provide bright and attracting lighting, and truly test the limits on basic incandescent and natural lighting.

    In high school, I loved working with neon signs, specifically with colored pencils and paint. I found interest in using neon in artwork like Tracey Emin, and Keith Sonnier, and have always been fascinated. Now, I would like to work with neon but try to capture it differently in photography. I want to see how I can make neon signs look in a non traditional way.

    There are many neon signs that can be found in State college, so I plan on trying to photograph each and everyone, while experimenting with different angles and perspectives. I want to change the way in which neon signs are usually photographed now, and make them interesting to look at.

    Through this process, I expect for some of the images to be a miss, but I also expect images to be well executed and aesthetically pleasing. I hope that at the end, my work has been well thought out and experimental, and I have truly tested the limits on how neon is photographed.
